If you are staying in a hotel, serviced apartment or short-stay rental, a nurse can come to your room. The logistics are a little different to a home visit — here is what to arrange.
Almost every delayed hotel appointment comes down to one of two things, and both are avoidable at booking.
Building access. Most Brisbane hotels and apartment towers require lift authorisation or a resident escort above the lobby. A nurse carrying clinical equipment cannot simply walk up. Tell reception you are expecting a visiting health practitioner, or arrange to meet in the lobby — either works, but one of them has to happen.
Whose room it is. The nurse needs the permission of the person the room is registered to. If you have booked a treatment for someone else in a room under your name, or you are in a friend's room, say so when you book so it can be sorted before the nurse is standing at the door.
Neither is a hurdle when it is handled in advance. Both are awkward at 9am with a checkout at 10.
Hotel and apartment bookings cluster in Brisbane City, Fortitude Valley, South Brisbane and Hamilton.
Allow 75 to 90 minutes from the nurse arriving to leaving. Work backwards from these.
The most common mistake is booking at 9.30 for a 10am checkout. Either book early enough, or ask the hotel for a late checkout first and tell us the new time.
Leave comfortable room between the appointment and the airport. Tell the nurse your departure time at the assessment so it can be taken into account.
If you are in town for something at the Gabba, Suncorp or the convention centre, road closures and crowds affect arrival times. Book either side of the event rather than against it.
Our hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm, Saturday by appointment. A late-night arrival means a next-day booking, so plan for the morning after rather than the night you land.
You do not need to be a local, and you do not need a referral. A few things are worth knowing.
Your nurse will ask what you take. Away from home you are less likely to have it to hand, so a photo of the packaging or your pharmacy list on your phone is enough.
This is a wellness service and does not require a referral. It also does not replace medical care — if you are unwell while travelling, see a doctor rather than booking an infusion.
Ask at booking if you need a receipt in a particular format for travel insurance or an employer. Easier to arrange beforehand than afterwards from another city.
Individual results may vary. All treatments are subject to health screening and nurse assessment, and IV therapy is not suitable for everyone. Cannulation can cause brief discomfort, and bruising or tenderness at the site; less commonly, vein irritation, light-headedness or an allergic reaction can occur. This is a wellness service, not a substitute for medical care, and it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Tell your nurse if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take regular medication, or have reacted to an infusion before.
Your nurse will talk through what suits you at the assessment.
As the registered guest you can receive visitors in your room, so permission is yours to give. What the hotel controls is access to the floor. Letting reception know you are expecting a health practitioner is usually all it takes, and it avoids the nurse being held at the desk.
No. Your nurse will not discuss why they are attending with hotel staff. Everything about your health assessment and treatment stays between you and the nurse, exactly as it would in a clinic.
Yes, provided you are happy for the nurse to attend and the person being treated consents for themselves. You can arrange and pay for someone else's appointment, but you cannot consent to treatment on another adult's behalf.
Tell the nurse at the assessment and they will factor it in. The practical issue is time rather than anything else — allow for the appointment, a short period afterwards, and the trip to the airport, rather than booking tight against a departure.
A hotel room is treated the same as any other address within our service area. Confirm pricing when you book, and see service areas for where we travel.
Travelling as a group? See group and event bookings, and send everyone the preparation guide.
Send us the property, your room number and your checkout time, and we will confirm a slot that fits.
